3D SYSTEMS LAUNCHES FIGURE 4 3D PRINTING PLATFORM OPTIMIZED FOR JEWELRY PRODUCTION
As metal additive becomes more and more commonplace — and given the complex geometries capable with 3DP — it was only a matter of time before somebody started printing jewelry. Think about it: what’s the purpose of jewelry? It’s to look as “extra” as possible. What better way to be flashy than through precious metal additive manufacturing? Think about the luster that can be achieved with a printed gemstone setting — not to mention bespoke sizing
IN SEARCH OF (ARTIFICIAL) INTELLIGENCE
TLDR: the new highest demand jobs are all focused around AI. The best part? AI is constantly evolving (read: nobody can really define it and one “expert’s” meaning will differ from another’s) and AI jobs will be hot for a long time coming
ARE COBOTS INHERENTLY SAFE?
Considering the AMT testbed just got one, I certainly hope so! Just to clarify: industrial robot arms (not cobots) need to be safeguarded in a cage or behind a fence or light curtain as they exceed safety standardized force (15 newtons IIRC). A collaborative robot (cobot) is typically force limited and implements a myriad of safety features so it doesn’t need to be closed off from human contact while it’s working. This article looks at some of the defining rules behind cobots
5G SENSOR TECHNOLOGY SUPPORTS ADAPTIVE PRODUCTION
Modern machines are equipped with sensors collecting a vast array of manufacturing equipment data. Analysis of the right (read: needed) data can reveal the differences between theoretical and practical production performance. The biggest issue with data science is streaming it from decentralized sources, which then creates considerable network lag. In comes 5G, a campaign spearheaded by our very industry!
5 THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT QUANTUM COMPUTING
Here’s the quick and dirty: quantum computers already exist. These new computers need new algorithms, need error-correction, complex modeling use cases, and will be first available as a cloud service. Did any of that make sense? No? Read the article.
