The MTConnect Institute has been approved as an American National Standards Institute (ANSI)-accredited Standards Developer, elevating MTConnect’s status in the national and international standards communities.

The move comes in response to increased interest in the MTConnect standard from industry and significant growth in membership in the MTConnect Institute. This accreditation indicates that the Institute’s standard development procedures adhere to ANSI’s Essential Requirements for due process, which include openness, coordination and harmonization, and compliance with normative policies and procedures, among others.

“Accreditation for the MTConnect Institute as an ANSI-accredited Standards Developer will help move MTConnect from an industry standard to a true national and international standard,” said Tim Shinbara, Secretary and Treasurer of the MTConnect Institute and VP of Technology at AMT – The Association For Manufacturing Technology. “The data definitions and context offered by the MTConnect standard serve modern manufacturers who are increasingly looking for IT/OT solutions that interoperate seamlessly and allow larger scale analytics.”

The MTConnect Institute produces the MTConnect standard, companion specifications, and technical reports. The MTConnect standard is an open-source communication standard for interoperability that offers a semantic vocabulary for manufacturing equipment and devices.
